Brief History - Batman: Dark Victory is the follow up maxi-series to 1999's "Batman: The Long Halloween," which serialized Batman's year-long quest to take down a calendar killer who killed on specific holidays. Batman: Dark Victory picks up where The Long Halloween left off. Set in the aftermath of The Long Halloween, Batman finds Gotham City caught in the middle of a battle between what`s left of the Falcone mob and freakish villains such as the Joker, Mr. Freeze and Catwoman. Meanwhile, the serial killer named Holiday seems to have returned to a life of crime, but who is committing Holiday`s murders this time? Holiday is released from Arkham Asylum because of improper police procedure at his arrest. His sister, Sofia, in an attempt to get revenge for her dead father, attempts to kill him by planting a series of bombs in Arkham. Batman finds out about this, but the bombs allow the vast majority of Batman's villains to escape Arkham, thus keeping him busy throughout the series as he also hunts the new calendar murderer, The Hanging Killer.
