![]() Sentry - Jae Lee Design - The design for the Sentry t-shirt by Jae Lee. It is also the cover art to Sentry #1. Brief History - Sentry is Jae Lee's second foray into the Marvel Knights imprint, headed by now Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada. Lee, along with writer Paul Jenkins, tell the story of Sentry, a hero supposedly created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the Silver Age of comics, who was instead denied his role in Marvel's epoch by the creation of the Fantastic Four. Lee and Jenkens play with the notion of what is real and what is fantasy in this cerebral entry into the Marvel Knights lexicon. The Sentry is taken out of the boundaries of superhero comics and is used as a sort of metaphor for pride, self-absorption, madness, alcoholism, and the Void. There is a juxtaposition of kitschy Silver Age panels with the pools of black ink Jae Lee uses to draw the actual world, as if this nowhere man, the Sentry, is living in two realities where his actions have a differing effect in both worlds, a la Sam Kieth's "The Maxx" comic book. Was The Sentry really around in the Silver Age, fighting alongside the Avengers? Was it just something he read in a comic book a long time ago and has now confused with his own reality? Is this comic actually set in the Marvel Universe? Not even The Sentry seems to know ... Raven first wore this shirt on the 1/15/00 WWF RAW is WAR!
