NWA: Total Nonstop Action: Raven Interview w/Mike Tenay: (08.27.03) - Tonight, Raven has his chance at the NWA World Heavyweight Title as he takes on AJ Styles, the current champion and the man who he would have defeated for the World Title back on June 11th in a three-way match match considered by many to be a match of the year candidate if not for the interference of Shane Douglas.

Prior to an interview with Tenay, Shane Douglas mentions that Alexis Laree has turned on Raven and left TNA. Douglas counts his and The New Church's constant attacks as the reason for driving her away. Shane makes official the fact that he wants to take Raven's hair and he will make sure that Raven will lose his match tonight as well.

Raven is interviewed by Mike Tenay. Raven brings up how blood feuds can make a competitor lose their eye on the ultimate prize in the business: the World Title. He mentions the Tommy Rich/Buzz Sawyer feud as an example and then brings up an example from his own career with his feuds in ECW with Sandman and Dreamer. Raven says he will win the title, it is his destiny and neither Douglas, The New Church or their mystery man will stop him.

Suddenly, AJ Styles comes down and starts jawing off to Raven, making fun of his makeup. Raven gets the better of him and AJ leaves the ring cursing Raven and claiming he's nothing.

Raven rolled Styles in for the cover, but Vince Russo was distracting the referee. Styles hit a low blow on Raven, and hit a quebrada moonsault off the middle rope into a DDT.

Styles whipped Raven, but Raven reversed it. Styles stopped himself, and superkicked Raven. Styles set up the chair in the ring and gave Raven a drop toe hold into it for a two count. The referee tried to take the chair away, but Styles set it up. He went for the drop toe hold again, but Raven sidestepped it, picked up the chair, and tossed it at Styles' head. Both men were down, and got up slowly. Raven got a second wind, hitting punches, a pair of clotheslines and a running kneelift. Raven hit a lariat in the corner and a bulldog for two. Raven went for the drop toe hold into the chair, but Styles jumped off the chair onto the top rope and launched himself back, but Raven picked up the chair and Styles went right into it. Raven covered, but Sinn ran out and dragged the referee from the ring to stop the count. Styles hit Raven with a DDT, but Raven kicked out at two.

OFF THE AIR REPORT
Exclusive to Scottlevy.com

Before the PPV went on the air:

Borash was doing his countdown to live television hype as the crew was frantically trying to get the Ultimate X Match set up. Shane Douglas came out and grabbed a live Mic. He had Sinn, Slash, and The Sinister Minister Jim Mitchell with him. He called out Raven, proclaiming that last week was a fluke. He said: "Raven, get your ass out here! I'm going to make you pay for what you did to me last week! Get out here NOW, RAVEN!"

It didn't take Raven long to accept the challenge, as he and the Gathering stormed the ring. The battle was on.

Julio locked up with Slash outside the ring, CM Punk and Sinn brawled into the crowd, and Raven and the Franchise stayed in the ring. It was 95% total domination by Raven and his crew.

The Franchise began to fight back, and whipped Raven into the corner. Raven reversed the move and sent Franchise into the turnbuckles hard, and as Franchise stumbled out of the corner writhing in pain, Raven finished off the sequence with his trademark Bulldog. Raven hit a short arm clothesline and laid the boots into Douglas.

Julio and Alexis had battled up to Raven's perch, as Punk and Sinn made their way past the dressing rooms towards the door outside.

This is around where the PPV comes in, where Raven hit a series of jabs followed by a DDP Style Discus Lariat. They did this spot twice in a row, with the second time being the opening moments of the live PPV.

After the PPV went off the air, a bloody yet victorious Raven laid slumped into the corner. Shane Douglas was outside the ring throwing a fit, kicking the rail and smashing his fists on the ring apron. He kept screaming about losing his shot at the title.

Raven motioned for a mic, and proceeded to cut one of his better delivered promos in recent memory.

(still slumped in the corner and bleeding profusely)

"I've said it before... and I'll say it again... I HAVE A DESTINY. (*huge crowd pop) I have a destiny... It IS my Destiny to be the NWA World Heavy Weight Champion... and there is nothing that anyone can do to stop me from achieving my destiny... not you Shane Douglas... not Jim Mitchell... not AJ Styles... I WILL wear the NWA WORLDS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE... NEXT WEEK... and I'll do it at AJ Styles Expense... So it is written... and SO it shall come to pass... AJ STYLES will walk through Raven's Clockwork Orange House of Fun... Quote the Raven... NEVERMORE!"

Vince Russo and AJ Styles make their way out to the entrance, as Russo has a few words for Raven. He says that next week AJ Styles is going to take Raven to school. He says that the title isn't going anywhere, its staying around AJ Styles waist.

AJ Styles gets a few words in, telling Raven it is his destiny to get his ass beat next week, but then again, they don't have to wait for next week, he can meet his destiny now.

Styles charges the Ring, and Raven finally staggers up from the corner. They both exchange a few punches, Styles goes to whip Raven to the ropes, Raven reverses it and pulls Styles down into the Raven Effect DDT.

Just like that, in a matter of seconds, Raven took the World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles out. Russo was enraged. Raven sits up on his knees, looking down at the fallen AJ Styles. He pointed to Russo, and kicks Styles out of the ring.

Russo is incoherently screaming and Raven again grabs the mic and to Russo proclaims:

"Ya wanna make it two out of three?"

Russo accepts Raven's challenge and takes of his shirt. He acts like he is going to get into the ring, but then looks down at the still laid out AJ Styles holding his head and neck on the ramp. Russo wisley decides not to get in the ring. Security comes out, and picks up Styles and escorts Russo out.

Raven strikes a crucifix, and does his standard photo op staggering cruci-twirl for the fans before leaving the ring. The crowd was completely on Ravens side. He had them eating out of his hands. Big pop for Raven as he acknowledged the crowd one last time before walking out of the arena.

NWA: Total Nonstop Action: Raven vs. "The Franchise" Shane Douglas: (08.13.03) - Tonight on NWA/TNA, Raven finally exacts his revenge against "The Franchise" Shane Douglas - one on one - in the ring.

A video package is played of the history between Raven and Shane Douglas in NWA/TNA, starting with his arrival on June 11th 2003 and how he cost Raven the NWA World Heavyweight title in a three-way match between Raven, AJ Styles and Jeff Jarrett. We see Douglas state that he is out to derail Raven's road to the NWA Title. We see Raven attack Douglas and we see James Mitchell's involvement in the feud, with the New Church giving Douglas the edge. We see Raven setting up this week's match and tonight it will all be settled.

Raven is interviewed backstage by Scott Hudson, as we see Raven kneeling backstage surrounded by candles preparing for the match: Raven gets on his knees and crawls to Hudson as Hudson explains The New Church and The Gathering are barred from ringside and perhaps that way the feud will achieve closure. Raven comes up the mic and addresses Hudson:

"We'll have closure when one of two things happens. One, I find out who Mitchell's mystery man is and I grind him to rubble beneath my chariot of wrath. Two, when I take Shane Douglas, that maggot-ridden malingerer, and I renovate his internal organs from the outside in. Then, and only then, will we have closure. Quote the Raven, nevermore!"

"Perfect Strangers" hits and Douglas comes out to the ring as Jeremy Borash announces the match is set for one-fall and Tenay explains that Douglas' tunnel vision in destroying Raven's career has led them all to this point. "Scream" hits and Raven makes his way to the ring and the match gets underway. Raven comes in like a house of fire to a huge pop and Douglas takes a powder to the arena floor. The audience screams for Raven. Douglas gets a hold of Raven's legs from the apron and slams them into the turnbuckle post. Tenay also notes this is Raven and Douglas' first match since 1996 and only their 3rd singles match ever. Tenay states that when he questioned Raven about his and Douglas' relationship in the past, Raven replied, "Our egos never allowed kinship." Shane and Raven lock up on the floor as Shane is in control of an already bleeding Raven. Raven rallies with a series of lefts and rights, but Douglas knocks him down again. Shane continues beating Raven down, slamming his bloody skull into the announce table.

Finally, the matcn goes back into the ring. Chops are still traded, but Raven rallies out of the corner, Shane stops the onslaught with a big boot. Shane brings a chair into the ring and hits the drop toe hold on Raven. Shane screams to the crowd that he demands his fucking dues. Raven hits the low blow on Douglas. Both men are down. Raven gets a chair, but Douglas counters and whips Raven into the chair propped in the corner. Raven is a bloody bloody mess. Douglas goes manic at the sight of Raven's blood and Douglas is still in control as Raven is being chanted to rally. Raven is trapped in a figure four leglock by Douglas, but manages to turn it on Shane, who then breaks the hold. Both men are in a great deal of pain. Raven rallies big and knocks Shane with a series of clotheslines and screams for Shane to get up and clocks him with a bulldog. Raven gets up and he goes at Shane, who locks him in a belly to belly to try the Pittsburgh Plunge, but Raven hits a series of headbutts and hits him with Shane's own finisher. Mitchell comes out with someone in a bodybag and goes for the Raven Effect. Mitchell screams that Raven can eitehr beat Shane or save Alexis, who is in the bag and running out of air. Raven tries to leave to save her but Shane grabs him so Raven rolls Shane up in a small package for the win and runs to save Alexis, only to have it be "the mystery man" again as the lights go out. When they come back up, Raven is in a bloody heap and Mitchell hands Shane a pair of scissors to cut Raven's hair. Raven is saved by TNA security who hold Shane off.

However, before the match Myers told Phoenix that Styles had Raven under control and that he could call it a night and wait for them to begin their victory party across the street at Heavenly Bodies.

When the match finally began, the action didn’t stay in the ring for long as Raven was getting ready to show Styles exactly what Raven’s Rules are. Raven took turns letting various fans around ringside hold chairs while he threw Styles into them. The action then went outside the P.C.W. Arena as Styles was shown what Raven’s mean streets are. Once they re-entered the Arena, the concession stand wasn’t safe as Raven threw Styles in and out of that area.
