Raven's Log | March 5, 2008

As far as the wrestling school goes, what is interesting is last year when we floated the idea, we had about 30 or 40 definite people. This year, either the people aren't responding because they responded last year or they havent been following the site recently or, what have you; because the caucus turnout is rather low. So if in fact you are interested and capable of attending (meaning you can either move to Georgia or at least stay for a couple weeks or one week, or a couple of days), please contact us at office@theraveneffect.com. Obviously 4 or 5 grand is quite pricey, which I recognize and am willing to work with people depending on their situation and I have gotten a lot of feedback from workers who are already trained who want to take it to the next level; whether its developing their character, polishing their work, learning psychology, learning how to draw money, how to cut a promo, whatever. For these individuals, I can definitely work out a completely different plan tailored to their individual needs, not unlike a trainer at the gym. Some people wanna lose weight, some people build muscle, some people wanna look at hot chicks, so whatever youre looking to improve, we can work something out financially and time-wise so that you can get some training without having to go through the entire training semester. For example, there's a guy in Jersey I know who wants to come down for a couple of weeks and work in a few particular areas. I obviously wont charge him 5 grand for 2 weeks work, I will work out some kind of arrangement there so that all parties get what they want.

If you want to come for a 3 days to work on something in particular, that is possible. I want to be able to share my knowlege to the most amount of people, and if I am gonna go through the effort of opening a school, I need to make it worthwhile. Also , this is open to people who dont want to work, and just want to understand the business better. Perhaps you are an armchair booker and want to learn more, or a smart fan, who wants to actually be smart. Hell you may just want to say you were in a ring with Raven. even if you have never wrestled nor ever plan to, I can design something so that you can show your friends a match you had with raven even if you have zero athletic skill. Hell, no one can be worse than some of the stiffs I've faced. I'm feeling charitable so they will go unmentioned. I can do it all, and if I cant, I'll find a way. I love problem solving and if it gives somebody a moment to show their grandkids, I'm all for it.

It is Sunday afternoon and I am driving back from a gig in South Carolina and as I sit here pondering in the car while my wife drives me because im lazy, I think to myself, how much I'm really enjoying doing indies again. I forgot how much more fun they are when I'm not being told what to do, how to do it, when it should be done, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Now don't get me wrong, working for major companies is truly fulfilling in one particular aspect(aside from the money) - being on TV every week and being able to take my character forward in its evolution as a three-dimensional entity. I also will miss the fact that certain aspects of my television wardrobe I will not be able to wear in public nor will I have a need to shop as excessively for my extravagant tastes. Don't get me wrong, I can and do wear my ring jackets - (the cool brocade ones) as winter coats, but does anyone really need 10 or 12 winter coats.

In a similar but different vein, now that the lair chair is sitting in my living room, next to my electric chair, and my antique Indonesian throne, I must say, it truly completes my house.

I'm actually very excited that I'm moving onto the next phase of my life, not that I'm leaving wrestling behind by any stretch of the imagination, but as it stands, I don't plan on going back to either WWE ever(and I do mean ever. I'm talking millions of dollars never) or TNA any time soon. Its actually a combination of exciting and terrifying to start over after 20 years. I guess what pisses me off more than anything is that theres no pension plan, theres no retirement, theres no health insurance, no roth, no 401k, no post job providings. It's so unlike a normal job when you put your 20 years in, you have a regular check coming in and anything else you do is either for fun, or to accentuate your style of living. it isnt, . . . . . your living. I think about other guys in the business who are having to pay alimony and child support with monetary rates commensurate with what the business was making at its peak and now theyre working indies and hanging on just trying to make ends meet and required to pay more in alimony and child support than they even make in a month. People dont realize that it costs 75-100 grand a year to live comfortably 250 nights a year on the road. Think about it, the govt gives a per diem tax wise write off for food and hotel at like 150-200 dollars a day, depending on the city, and it might be higher now. Thats 40 grand a year minimum, not including rental cars, and the rest of your life. Look I ain't complaining, I love what I do, and I did it for love of the game, but the boys deserve a little something post career. Especially the old timers. Especially the journey men. Especially the guys who never got the big runs. What really sux is if the economy wouldn't have taken a flying dump, at least things would be better off. Thank you George Bush for fucking up the economy, you stupid douchebag. and anybody who thinks he hasnt, or doesnt realize he's unequivocally one of the worst presidents in history has never studied history. Republican lovers, don't think I'm just bashing Bush, the Democrats are cunts for bending over backwards and taking it in the keyster, dry, I might add. we need a change.

Well here's a change, I'm actually getting my schedule out in advance. My schedule is starting to fill up as I decided to take more indies. i will be in Orangeburg S.C. on Sat. March 8. Dalton, GA. on march 14, Charlotte N.C on March 15. I'll be in Portugal March 28 and 29. I am gonna be in Germany to wrestle for my good friend Ecky, on April 5, and then I will be all over Australia for a few companies. Sydney on April 11, Adelaide on the 12, and 13. Shows in New Zealand, one of the most beautiful places on earth, on the 17th and 18th I believe, and then I will be at the Armageddon con on the 19th and 20th, before racing home to wrestle for Frank Goodman in Orlando on the 22nd and 23rd(thank goodness for the int'l dateline or i'd never make it)then the 27th in Woodstock GA. again and so on.
